Where intellectual rigour meets the practical ability to get things done, in research, evaluation, strategic planning and monitoring.
iLab was not set up to be just another consulting firm. We are building a platform for expertise and delivery that can stand alongside the best international institutions while staying grounded in field realities.
Our long-term ambition is to become a genuine collaborative ecosystem, recognised internationally, in which leading expertise, disciplined execution and talent development reinforce one another.
To be recognised not just for what we say, but for the consistency of what we deliver.
We move forward in steps that each produce a deliverable, like sprints, rather than following a fixed plan.
We feed the lessons of each assignment back into our methods and tools.
From our internal systems to the support we give our partners.
Our values follow directly from our vision and mission: to build a platform for expertise and delivery, recognised for the consistency of what it delivers.
Sound, transparent methods that produce credible findings.
Being judged on what we deliver, not just on what we say.
Leading expertise that grows stronger by working alongside teams and talent.
Expertise rooted in its context, including in complex settings.
Every assignment should improve what our partners understand, decide and achieve.
At the heart of how we work and grow.
iLab subscribes to the African Evaluation Principles adopted in 2021 by the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA): evaluation “made in Africa”, rooted in African contexts, needs and knowledge, and informed by international good practice. These principles build on our own values and complement, rather than contradict, the frameworks of the agencies that commission our work.
Evaluation that strengthens people's agency through participatory approaches, mutual accountability and local capacity strengthening.

iLab never carries out quality assurance for an evaluation it is conducting or bidding for. We are never both judge and party.
A small core team leads every assignment and ensures quality and continuity, drawing on a network of associate experts and consultants for specialist skills and languages.
